Holiday Mountain Ski Vacations
Nestled in the Catskills in the town of Monticello just about 90 minutes from New York City, Holiday Mountain is a popular area in the Northeast for skiing. Even though it is a relatively small mountain compared to many other popular ski resorts, having a top elevation of only 1300 feet and a vertical drop of only 400 feet, this area is still a popular place for the younger crowd.
It’s no wonder that so many people flock to Holiday Mountain, considering that they have trails for all levels of skiers, lots of activities, and that it is also a great place to learn how to ski. The Holiday Mountain Ski School offers private and group lessons with certified teachers. They also have a special “Kinderski Program” for kids between the ages of four and six.
The mountain has a total of 15 trails including slopes for beginners, intermediates, and expert skiers. There are eight lifts, including three chair lifts and five surface lifts. While skiing and snowboarding are the main attractions at Holiday Mountain, there are many more activities as well, including bumper cars, an arcade, and even a mechanical bull. There is always something to do at Holiday Mountain Ski Resort. Also, if you enjoy night skiing, they have that as well.
The Holiday Mountain Chalet has everything you would need: a rental shop with ski and snowboarding equipment as well as a ski shop and ski school. It also has restrooms, lockers, and first aid supplies. You can also stop in at the Chalet’s cafeteria and lounge for a break or a bite to eat after skiing.
As far as lodging goes, one of the best places to stay when visiting Holiday Mountain is the Villa Roma Resort Hotel, which is located in the Sullivan County Catskills. Better Homes & Garden Magazine named Villa Roma as one of “America’s 50 Best Family Resorts,” and with the amazing amount of fun activities that the resort offers; it is easy to see why it is so highly acclaimed! The resort features a rail park for snowboarders, snow tubing, birthday packages, and of course skiing. You have a number of other lodging options as well; there are around 20 lodges and 15 hotels for you to choose from in the area.
If you come to Holiday somewhere between late February and early March, you may catch the annual Winter Carnival where you can see all kinds of winter races as well as super fun activities like hayrides, snow golf, and even clowns to entertain the little ones.
The local atmosphere also has a lot to offer, the roads leading into Holiday, which wind through the mountains, make for some great scenic travel.
As you can see, between the variety of different slopes at Holiday Mountain, an amazing villa, and local scenery and activities, Holiday has a lot to offer a family looking for a fun and relaxing retreat in upstate New York.
