Italy Ski Vacations – Experience the Charming Antiquity of Limone
If having a fun ski vacation in an old and beautiful Italian village sounds like heaven to you (like it does me!), then if you can make a trip to Italy, you should definitely make Limone a travel destination.
Limone is one of Italy’s oldest ski areas, and it has been attracting skiers for quite some time now, almost as long as skiing has been popular for vacationers. The town has a really special ambiance of a cozy winter wonderland; you’ll definitely get an old world feel in this quaint little village, which has a twelfth century church, along with many other old buildings. The town is tucked in a spot just near the French border, and it is only about thirty miles from Nice.
You’ll get a real feel of old world Italy here; this sleepy little village is perfect for a relaxing vacation. But if you do want some more action, there is a lot of nightlife and other activities in nearby surrounding towns, and the gourmet food in the area is simply out of this world! Food and skiing are everything here – with more than 50 restaurants, and 46 ski runs, it is unlikely you’ll get your fill of it all in just one trip!
With a top elevation of 6,689, snow cover can be somewhat unpredictable. The mountain has a vertical drop of 3,033 feet and most of the runs are best suited to intermediate skiers, though there are a few that are suitable for beginners and experts. Experts should expect to do a bit of traveling to find good diamond runs, though.
The trails are accessible from Limone’s 27 lifts, which include seven chair lifts and 20 surface lifts to carry you over the powdery slopes.
The people of Limone take pride in their village’s antiquity, the town is old and they like to keep it that way. If the charm of European antiquity coupled with the fun of skiing is something that appeals to you, then this is definitely a vacation you will not want to miss! You will truly get the Italian experience in Limone.
This is a great vacation for couples and honeymooners, since the area is so cozy and romantic. But it makes for a delightful travel spot for anyone looking for fun, beauty, and relaxation all in the same place.
Limone is our pick for Italian skiing, but there are other fine ski resorts in Italy as well. The Livigno Resort is more bustling than Limone and it is a big hit among snowboarders with its boarder-friendly slopes. It also offers several parks with trails for every level of skier. The Sella Ronda region also has much to offer, as a matter of fact, it is Italy’s largest ski area with 6 resorts and over 350 kilometers of skiable area. Sella Ronda is also near Marmolada, Italy’s highest peak. As you can see, Italy offers abundance when it comes to skiing!
