Okanagan Mountain Range Ski Vacations

The Okanagan Mountain Range, located in scenic British Columbia to the east of Okanagan Lake, has breathtaking jagged peaks, lots of wilderness, and lovely valleys and meadows. As you may have already guessed, the view here alone is worth a trip, but there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied as well.

During the summer this is the perfect place to do some camping, but when winter hits, the skiing weather and conditions can be absolutely perfect! The climate here really makes for some great skiing; you can fly down powdery slopes and glide through scenic mountain trails.

The entire area is simply stunning in its natural beauty, and for this reason people come here to engage in a number of activities. Because of the demand for lodging in the Okanagan Mountain Range, there are quaint and cozy lodges and resorts peppered throughout the snow-blanketed area. These scattered resorts are very quiet and peaceful, and even though they are small, they have a lot of great skiing around them.

There are several Okanogan ski resorts to choose from, including Apex Mountain Resort, Big White Ski Resort, Silver Star Mountain Resort, and Sun Peaks Resort. Of all of these, Big White is rated the highest. It is seated in the Monashee Mountains and is known the world over for its exceptional snow quality. The resort has nearly 2,600 skiable acres with 112 runs. They offer Alpine skiing, night skiing, tubing, and snowboarding. The majority of trails are for intermediate skiers, but they do have a good number for beginners as well as for advanced skiers.

Sun Peaks is another great resort in the area that you might want to check out. This resort also has a number of different types of skiing available, including Alpine skiing, night skiing, Snowcat skiing, and cross-country skiing. They also have snowboarding and tubing available for its guests. As far as the difficulty level of the trails goes, 10% are for beginners, 58% for intermediates, and 32% are for advanced skiers. Ski season at Big White typically runs from November to April. Big White also offers childcare, ski and snowboarding lessons, ski and board rentals, children’s programs, and women’s programs.

There are some great resorts in the area, but most of all you’ll find the skiing vacation of your dreams in Okanagan. During the winter, the snow is exceptional, however temperatures in the Okanogan Mountain Range often drop to zero degrees, so make sure you bring items that will keep you warm at all times and that will keep you safe no matter which trail you may choose to ski.

The skiing is amazing, but there are also lots of other things to do in the area including ice fishing and snow shoeing during winter, and in the summer you can pay the Okanagans a visit to swim, hike, and fish with a breathtaking view of the range.

This area is ideal for skiing, but as you can see, it is a place that families can travel to for year-round awe-inspiring fun and relaxation.
