Ski Vacations on a Budget

When you start researching all of the different options for ski vacations, you will find a lot of information about various resorts and packages that have much to offer. Finding terrific vacation spots isn’t difficult, however, finding ski vacations that fit into your budget can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help you find a great family ski place on a budget.

To save money, look for lesser known resorts. This does not mean that these resorts will not provide you with a fun vacation – it simply means that they aren’t quite as well known as other resorts, and therefore, the prices may be a great deal cheaper. There are plenty of gorgeous ski areas that are simply not as popular as Tahoe and Aspen, some because they are not near heavily populated areas, some for the simple reason that people do not know the name as well as others. This doesn’t mean that they won’t have a lot of great skiing, though, and one great thing about finding one of these is that you will probably not have to deal with crowds and long lines as opposed to some of the more frequented resorts. And this is a big plus!

Another money-saving tip is to look for ski vacation packages that will include your lodging, lift tickets, lessons, rentals, and possibly even some meals. A lot of places will offer great package deals to help you and your family save cash.

Also, be willing to make some sacrifices if money is a real issue. For instance, instead of eating in an expensive restaurant each night, eat cheaper food at local delis or family restaurants, or even better - get some groceries and make sandwiches and snacks in your room.

There are ways to save once you’re at the ski resort as well. See if you can avoid renting equipment - if you have friends who ski, see if you can borrow equipment from them instead of renting it at a resort. At some places the rental equipment can be just as expensive as lodging. If you need ski instruction, you can join a group for lessons to save money instead of taking private lessons.

Most of the time, lodging is more expensive than motels, so instead of staying at a resort lodge, stay at a motel farther away from the slopes if necessary.

If you and your family are wanting to do some other activities on your vacation, look for places that have nature hikes or scenic, historic towns to walk around and enjoy as opposed to more expensive activities like golfing at a local resort club. A lot of times, you’ll get more enjoyment out of simply observing the mountain views anyway.

As you can see, there are numerous ways that you can cut down on the expense of your ski trip and still have a lot of fun with your family on the slopes. After all, it is all about the powder!
